Health: the page that matters

Nothing on this site matters more than this page, and nothing is skipped more reliably. The scene intersects with real health risks; managing them is neither complicated nor optional for adults who intend to keep being healthy adults.

The non-negotiables

• Protection, every time, no exceptions negotiated by anyone's charm or anyone's assurance. STIs including HIV are present in every nightlife economy on earth; condoms are sold in every Thai convenience store. There is no version of this rule with an asterisk;
• Testing is easy here: Thailand's clinics and hospitals run accessible, professional, low-cost STI panels — anonymous options exist in the cities. Regulars test regularly; anyone with an exposure or symptoms tests now, not at home next month;
• Know that PEP exists: post-exposure prophylaxis against HIV, effective when started fast (within 72 hours, sooner is better), available at Thai hospitals. If a protection failure happens, that clock matters — go, immediately, and ask;
• Vaccination sense: Hepatitis B vaccination is standard travel medicine for anyone whose travel includes this scene — a conversation for your doctor before flying.

The wider health picture

• Alcohol in the tropics compounds: heat dehydration accelerates every drink. Pace, alternate with water, and treat “buckets” as the ambush they are;
• Drink integrity is a health rule as much as a safety one (spiking);
• Sleep and mood: district lifestyles at length erode both — the long-stayer's spiral (late nights, drinking, isolation) is a recognised expat pattern. Sunlight, exercise and non-district friendships are the boring, effective counterweights;
• Thai healthcare is excellent in the cities and tourist centres — private hospitals to international standards. Travel insurance that actually covers you is part of the kit.
